He was publisher of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News and chief executive officer of its parent company, Philadelphia Media Holdings LLC, from June 2006 and August 2006, respectively, until October 2010. In February 2009, Philadelphia Newspapers LLC, a subsidiary of Philadelphia Media Holdings LLC, filed voluntary petitions for reorganization relief pursuant to Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy code and emerged from bankruptcy in October 2010. He previously served as chairman and chief executive officer of Tierney Holdings LLC, a private investment firm. From June 2004 to March 2005, he was vice chairman of Advanta Corp. Prior to that period, he was the founding partner of T2 Group, a public relations firm, from November 2003 until it was sold to Advanta Corp. Mr. Tierney serves as a director on a variety of civic, educational and charitable boards, including the board of directors of Nutrisystem, Inc., a publicly traded corporation and leading provider of home-delivered weight-loss meal plans.
